Children and Parenting Support
Parenting can be many things; there can be big ups and downs, and we get it! We focus on providing holistic support to parents and children in an integrated and realistic manner. We're here to help your family improve communication patterns, understand relational dynamics and build skills together.
Why get Children and Parenting Support?
Parents and caregivers often seek therapy to support their children emotionally, socially, and behaviorally. Working with children inherently involves collaboration with their caregivers and families to ensure sustainable therapeutic progress.
Counselling for children and their families offers numerous advantages. It aids parents and children in acquiring new skills improving family communication, fostering emotional regulation, and promoting positive neurological changes in a secure, expressive, and contained environment.
How can Children and Parenting Support help me?
Working together to foster a healthier, happier family unit.
Our development journey begins even before birth and is influenced by our initial interactions with our caregivers. Being an understanding and insightful parent starts with comprehending your own attachment to your caregivers and its impact throughout various life stages. Your relationship with your child and your responses to them profoundly affect their emotional regulation and behaviour.
Our team of therapists employs a relational, person-centred approach to parenting, emphasising the cultivation of healthy attachments, empathy, and the enhancement of emotional expression and regulation within the family. We view you as a 'co-therapist' in supporting your child. Collaborating with parents is a valuable way to instil a sense of safety, self-compassion, and self-esteem in our children. We believe that it's not just about 'correcting' a child's behaviour but establishing a strong 'connection.' A child's internal sense of security, shaped by their primary relationships, has the most significant impact on their behaviour and interactions with the world.
Are you tired of being frustrated as a parent?
There are times when we just need a little help working with our kids and improving communication. When we aren’t working well as a family unit, tensions and frustrations can run high.
Therapywell stands out as one of Brisbane's few private allied health practices that offers fully equipped play therapy rooms designed to effectively engage children and young people in therapy. Our therapy team has extensive training and experience in working with children and families, utilising talk-based and expressive therapeutic techniques.
